Growin’ Veggies
Farm Update..
Things are go wonderfully at the farm! The weather had been iffy but we’ve still managed to get a lot done. Most of the raspberries have been fed and mulched. And the greenhouse is overflowing.
We have seedlings of tomatoes, eggplants, lettuce, parsley, broccoli, cabbage, cut flowers and other colder weather plants. And then just recently I filled about 300 peat pots with cucumbers, melons, pumpkins, zucchini, summer and winter squash..
The onions outside are holding up pretty well even through the rain. We just finished putting leeks in the ground and we are still working on scallions. I squeezed in two new rows in between the onions for scallions. It was a challenge trying not to disrupt the onions in the rows around me, but Nancy decided I was best for the job since I’m so little. Dallas joined us yesterday and helped put a lot more leeks in the ground.
Today we harvested kale, chinese cabbage, leaf lettuce, and radishes for the Gardiner market. I also made some brownies and peanut butter cookies and Nancy made raspberry muffins. Yum. I made a delicious salad with fresh greens for lunch as well.
Speaking of food. We eat very well around here. I am loving the family dinners. We all take turns cooking. Tonight Dallas and I made fried chicken and stir fry. Eating healthy is so easy up here because Chip and Laura are vegetarians and we buy mostly organic, until the veggies start really pouring in and we’ll eat our own food! Can’t wait! I already have enjoyed making fresh salads so much! Here’s an example…
I am loving working up here! And this weekend Jeff is coming to visit. I am so excited to show him around the farm and around Maine! I’ll leave you with some more pictures of what we’ve been up to…
